Precision ag in the college classroom

Posted August 26th, 2010

Teaching precision agriculture is an important focus at many educational institutions, and Ag Leader is dedicated to supporting this education by working with the instructors. We recently held a two-day training with many of these educational leaders discussing how technology is benefitting agriculture and sharing ideas about how to teach this information to the next generation. Here is a short clip of some of the educators’ comments outlining their goals and how they’re bringing precision technologies to life in the classroom.

This training was beneficial for everyone. With a wide range of educators who are focused on teaching technology, we were all able to gain a better perspective of the purposes of technology in the classroom.

The educators also shared many stories about their students, who become a crucial part of helping technology grow in agriculture. We talked about the many possibilities this education holds for their students’ future careers: agronomists using precision technology, dealers selling precision technology, managers at technology companies, sales representatives or farmers using the technology.

Sounds like a very interesting event. Are you going to have another training with educators? Are they open to anyone or are they by invitation only? How could I get more information about them? Thanks.

    Hello Melinda,

Thanks for the interest and questions! We currently hold these training events for educational institutions annually each summer. Our next event of this type will be in the summer of 2011, but there are lots of opportunities to be involved before then.

We continually seek to assist with the training of precision agriculture in the classroom. We have a program that provides software, mobile software, manuals, trainings and other classroom projects that is always available. Contact Pete at 515-232-5363, ext. 7184 for details on how this program can be used to equip students with a firm understanding of precision agriculture.
