As you begin wrapping up the year and looking forward to 2015, have you asked yourself, what did I learn from 2014? How can I use what I learned to increase my profitability in 2015? What caught your eye on a yield map? Did you notice a correlation to yield from varied fertilizer rates? When comparing yield maps from year to year, do you notice consistent yield trends? You’ve probably noted many things throughout the year, but the big question is, what are you going to do about it?Keep Reading

Looking for a more efficient method for crop insurance reporting this year? Why not use your precision ag data? It contains all the important details required for reporting such as planting dates, crops and acres. Earl Porter, Porter Crop Insurance, in southeast Kansas used SMS for acreage reporting and was impressed with the expedited acreage reporting. “It eliminates the need for the farmer to look up records and fill out acreage report by hand. I feel like the SMS program will help agents and farmers alike by speeding up the data collection and processing both in accuracy and time constrains.”Keep Reading
As we seek new ways to increase efficiency within our operations, utilizing precision technologies for crop scouting becomes appealing. In a previous blog we discussed utilizing your precision ag data while crop scouting. While it’s important to have access to that reference data in the field, you may ask yourself how can I use GPS technology to precisely and more efficiently record crop and pest observations? Or how can I precisely map and integrate my crop sensor readings into precision scouting software? How can I create custom tailored scouting reports and securely archive scouting data?Keep Reading
The evolution of precision ag has impacted how growers and ag professionals accomplish many tasks. We’ve seen in-field crop scouting evolve from a notepad and pencil, to a GPS enabled tablet/mobile device to simply record crop and pest observations. Is it adequate for you to just document observations? Want to precisely navigate to each hybrid planted? Want to navigate to particular treatment zones? Need to navigate to an area that you’ve been struggling with in previous years?Keep Reading
The production ag community has envisioned the many benefits of utilizing UAV technology since its inception. With many affordable solutions on the market today, ag professionals have begun offering services, and growers have realized the opportunity of using their own UAVs in their operations. While UAVs have become more affordable, often this technology has required the purchase of additional software programs to stitch, process and analyze captured imagery. While SMS doesn’t currently offer image stitching tools, the software is capable of processing and analyzing the raw NIR imagery.Keep Reading
