2021 SureForce™ Corn Trial – IL

What We Were Testing For:

To evaluate SureForce™ at three different treatments in the field and the formation of uniform seedbed conditions across the different treatment types. The agronomy team will evaluate the uniformity of emergence and evaluate the seedling depth during the 2021 growing season. Yield data will be collected at harvest to determine the efficacy of the down force treatments and develop best management practices for growers to utilize on their own farms based on the outcomes of these trials.

Early Season Findings:

Observed some seed trench compaction on one of the manual passes resulting in smaller, less developed corn. Moist conditions at the time of planting made the soil susceptible to compaction on manual passes where gauge wheel load was not being managed effectively.

Sam observes plant differences above and below ground.

Here you can see the down force treatments of this trial as seen in AgFiniti®.

Trial Location:
Central Illinois

Product Tested:
SureForce™

Crop Type:
Corn

Outlying Factors:

Germination issues. Observed quite a few missing plants within the tech trial area. AgFiniti showed acceptable singulation. After a quick investigation, we found that the seed had been placed properly in nearly every instance of a missing plant, but the seed had failed to germinate.

Sam investigates singulation errors in the field.

Additional Trial Information and Maps:

The following weather information is provided by an on-site Arable weather station.

Harvest Observations and Insights:

In this study the SureForce automatic heavy setting was the highest-yielding setting. This topped the manual setting by 1.8 bu/ac. The isolated observation of the sidewall compaction in the early season findings was not as widespread of an issue as initially thought, which is why we didn’t see a larger yield difference across the settings.

This is a summarization of data collected in one year and represents only what happened across the tested field in 2021.  It is not a rigorous evaluation of factors that may or may not influence yield.  Results may not predict future performance and may not be complete.
