AMES, IOWA – On September 25, 2014, Ag Leader Technology Inc., joined the Iowa State University Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) for the dedication ceremony of Elings and Sukup Halls. The halls add a combined 173,000 square feet of classroom and research space to the Biorenewables Complex at Iowa State. Ag Leader donated $250,000 to this building project, which will be home to more than 800 graduate and undergraduate students.

“Ag Leader is proud to be part of such an opportunity to further the awareness of precision agriculture through state-of-the-art facilities for Iowa State students and faculty,” said Ag Leader President Al Myers. “These new classrooms and labs will provide a higher level of education and a place for students to gain hands-on experience with the technology.”

Three classrooms within Sukup Hall are named in honor of Ag Leader’s donation and offer students the ability to utilize the most advanced precision ag technology and software.

Iowa State Professor Matt Darr said, “Ag Leader has been a key partner in enabling us to maintain excellence in our precision ag teaching program.  Through the donation of hardware and software Ag Leader’s support ensures that our students are trained on the latest technology and exposed to hands-on labs that prepare them to contribute to the growing precision ag industry.”

Darr has seen tremendous growth in the demand for precision ag education and the Ag Systems Technology major at Iowa State. Over the last 10 years, he’s seen the program grow from approximately 20 students to over 160 enrolled this fall. He believes the demand from industry employers and the new facilities at Iowa State will ensure continued growth of the program and qualified graduates entering into the workforce.

“At Ag Leader, our mission is to deliver cutting edge precision ag solutions for our customers,” concluded Myers. “As the industry continues to grow and evolve, our mission cannot be complete without talented individuals coming into the workforce to develop new innovations.  We believe our investment in the Biorenewables Complex supports a bright future for our industry through ensuring higher education opportunities for the next generation of innovators.”
